The Lakes of Loosdrecht are one of the most beautiful spots between Amsterdam and Utrecht. In a beautiful scenic Loosdrecht developed to a water sports center which is known abroad. This became all by the fact that there was no more peat lake dredging and only water what was left. Loosdrecht with its five connected lakes also offer numerous recreational opportunities.
Do you want to discover the lakes or river de Vecht? This is possible with a sailboat, rowboat, canoe, sloop or completely arranged with a canalcruise. Take a picnic basket with you and sail to one of the islands, enjoy the beautiful view over the meadows and fields, the stately country house and the traditional farms. Or put your boat on a dock and enjoy the many cozy terraces and all the delicious that Loosdrecht restaurants have to offer.
Also on the mainland of Loosdrecht there is plenty to do. There are beautiful cycling and walking routes available and there are many breathtaking views over the lakes. On the Nieuw Loosdrechtsedijk is a Castle named Sypesteyn. The construction of the castle, as we know now, it has started in 1901, but the oldest foundations that are found there date from around the year 1500. The castle with its collection of Loosdrecht porcelain and family portraits, as well the garden are worth visiting.
But even in winter Loosdrecht is worth visiting. If the Loosdrecht lakes are frozen and the skates are extracted from the fat for the track of Loosdrecht, where many famous skaters participate. And do not forget the cozy stalls ‘koek-en-zopie’.
